In a significant step towards promoting semiconductor manufacturing, the Uttar Pradesh government is gearing up to host Semicon India 2024 at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida from September 11 to 13.

This event, organised in partnership with SEMI, Messe Muenchen India and the Electronic Industries Association of India-ELCINA, aims to bolster India’s semiconductor industry, positioning the nation as a key player in the global market.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the event on September 11.

The semiconductor industry in India is rapidly emerging, with projections indicating that the regional chip market could surpass $55 billion by 2026. Recognising this potential, the UP government is actively courting semiconductor industries to invest in the state.

Semicon India 2024 will feature a comprehensive exhibition from September 11 to 13, showcasing the latest advancements in semiconductor technology. Manufacturers from around the globe will set up stalls, offering insights into the industry’s future.

The event will kick off with the inauguration by Prime Minister Modi, followed by workshops on smart manufacturing and presentations on India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

The second day of the event will focus on cross-regional partnerships, flexible hybrid electronics, supply chain management, and sustainable practices within the industry.

The final day, September 13, will feature a presentation by Micron on package manufacturing, a bootcamp on semiconductor fabrication by ISA, and a session on the semiconductor industry’s journey thus far by IESA.

The Semicon India exhibition and conference will be held in conjunction with Electronica India and Productronica India, the largest electronics industry fairs in Southeast Asia. This landmark event will bring together a host of domestic and international companies, offering them a platform to explore India’s rapidly expanding semiconductor ecosystem and uncover new business opportunities.

Semicon India 2024 will feature a wide array of comprehensive exhibitions, insightful programmes and exclusive networking opportunities. Participants will have the chance to engage with local leaders and government officials, gaining valuable insights into the nation’s semiconductor landscape.

To advance technological development in the country and meet domestic demand, the India Semiconductor Mission (an initiative of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology) has attracted big companies like AMD, Applied Materials and Micron Technology to invest in its chip sector.

Recognising the vast potential for semiconductor manufacturing in Uttar Pradesh, the state government has introduced its first-ever UP Semiconductor Policy, offering a range of lucrative incentives to investors.

Key highlights of the policy include a 50 per cent additional capital subsidy on top of the capital subsidy approved by the Government of India. Additionally, the policy offers a 75 per cent land rebate for industries involved in compound semiconductors, silicon photonics, sensors, ATMP and OSAT.

Chief Minister Yogi has invited investors, urging them to tap into the immense potential of UP as the state works towards its ambitious goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy. Over the past seven years, the Yogi government has relentlessly worked to create a conducive environment for industries, transforming UP into a thriving hub for electronics manufacturing.

The state’s efforts have borne fruit, with more than 200 electronics manufacturing companies now operating within Uttar Pradesh, solidifying its reputation as a major player in the sector. Notably, Uttar Pradesh has also emerged as a leader in mobile manufacturing, contributing a remarkable 65 per cent to India's total mobile production.
