NTPC inks MoU with USAID  to developing township

Tuesday, 10 September 2024 | PNS | Ranchi

NTPC has signed an MoU with USAID on Monday through its India Mission in Delhi to develop a roadmap for transforming NTPC townships and offices as Net Zero Establishments.

The MoU was signed by NTPC Executive Director Dr Vijay Prakash and Deputy Mission Director (A) USAID Aaron Schubert and Bhutan in the presence of Director (Operations), NTPC Ravindra Kumar in Delhi.

NTPC Limited, the largest integrated power utility in India, is addressing the issues related to climate change proactively. NTPC was the first energy company across the world to declare its Energy Compact Goals as a part of the UN High Level Dialogue on Energy.

As a next step forward, NTPC has decided to make its townships and offices net zero in Scope 2 emissions by the financial year 2025-26. In addition, NTPC is also making its best efforts to declare its townships and offices net zero in water and waste at the earliest.

The MoU aims at developing strategies and roadmap for achieving the net zero status for NTPC Townships and Offices; benchmarking, implementation and certification, and scaling up initiatives at national level.

Earlier in 2022, NTPC had already signed a Statement of Intent with NITI Aayog for collaboration on developing a net zero GHG emissions roadmap for NTPC Group in alignment with the Panchamrit goals of Government of India.
