A woman of Ganeswarpur under the Sahadevkhunta police limits in Baleswar was on Saturday arrested for allegedly hatching and executing a plan to kill her husband after being unable to bear torture inflicted on her by him.
Besides the accused woman Basanti Behera, police also arrested her brother-in-law Bhagirathi Das, Akash Das and Banchhanidhi Chanda. The three had allegedly taken money from her to kill her husband Madhab Behera.
Basanti reportedly gave them Rs 50,000 to kill her husband. On December 27, Akash and Banchhanidhi took Madhab to a secluded place and made him consume liquor. They later crushed him to death with stones, reports said.
During investigation, police came to know about Basanti’s alleged involvement in the incident.
“Basanti Behera’s husband used to torture and beat her after getting drunk. Unable to bear it, she hatched a plan with her brother-in-law and two others to eliminate him. We have arrested all of them; and they will be forwarded to court,” said Sahadevkhunta police station IIC Paresh Rout.
