UP to extend textile  policy for 3 months

Wednesday, 31 August 2022 | PNS | Lucknow

The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to extend the term of UP Handloom, Powerloom, Silk, Textile and Garment Policy-2017 for three months effective from July 13.  The cabinet has already approved the proposal for extending the policy term.

The policy was formulated by the state government for creating a big platform for employment of the youth in handloom and textile sectors as part of its vision to realise the dream of building a self-reliant UP.

Official sources said the state government was also working on formulating a new and comprehensive policy for the year 2022 in order to boost these sectors. The policy is expected to create massive employment opportunities for the youth, not only in the district headquarters but also in their own villages across the state.

Establishing a textile park in the state is also one of the priorities of the state government. The state government has contributed immensely towards making UP’s handloom and textile industries, which are integral to India’s rich cultural heritage, famous not only within the country, but also abroad. The government has started many welfare schemes for weavers engaged in the handloom and textile industries for their empowerment. The government is encouraging weavers and students willing to study weaving-related subjects.
