Central Revenue Division Commissioner (RDC) AB Ota, who is investigating into the Bhubaneswar SUM Hospital fire tragedy, on Tuesday, began recording statements of the witnesses who have filed affidavits before the commission.
However, out of the 20, who were asked to appear on the day, only three showed up and deposed before the commission. “Fresh notices will be issued to them who did not turn up today,” informed the RDC, adding that 20 and 21 others have been asked to depose on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
The commission had received affidavits from at least 400 witnesses, out of whom only 61 had been asked to depose.
At least 31 patients died due to the fire in the private hospital on October 17, following which the State Government ordered the RDC to investigate into the incident and submit a report.
The RDC on Tuesday also informed that at least 35 others, including fire officials, health officials and Khordha district officials, who played key roles in dousing the flames, rescue operations and treatment of the shifted patients, have also been issued notices to depose before the commission. “All these officials had not filed affidavits,” the RDC informed.
