Steel City turns 'City of lights'

The Steel City is all decked up to pay tributes to founder Jamsteji Nusserwanji Tata on his 176th birth anniversary on March 3. Jubilee Park and other institutions of Tata Steel are being lit up for the three-day gala event. The city wears a festive look these days as the test trial has begun. The various departments of steel major are busy making tableaus to be displayed on the occasion. The entire Jubilee Park, including the Jayanti Sarovar has been decked up for the festivities.

According to information, laser light display will be used to pay tribute to doyen of Indian industry Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata for the first time in a public place. Tata Steel and its subsidiary, Jusco as part of its efforts to spread reach of the celebrations will be introducing laser light display on the theme ‘Unfolding a New Story’ at three picturesque landmark Beldih lake in Dhatkidih between March 3 and 4.

The journey of Tata Steel will be showcased by laser lights comprising of laser beams set to music and audio on a big screen in the evening so that a large number of people can watch it from a distance. “It is an innovative step to involve a large section of people. The laser lights show of 12-minute duration will be repeated after each hour. This would be first time such a laser show would be organised free of cost for the masses. We hope to make it an annual feature,” said an official of Jusco.

Meanwhile, several important roads like Bistupur Main Road, Straight Mile Road, Office Road and Circuit House have been illuminated with lED lights for the Founder’s Day function. The illuminations would be done through lED lights to decorate Bhuiyandih Park, Bhetiya Park (Kadma), Nildih Park (near Telco) and Joggers’ Park in Golmuri. An exhibition on the theme ‘Unveiling of the new story’  is also being set up near the Children’s Park of the Jubilee Park.

Besides, the annual tributes paying celebration inside the premises of Tata Steel works and illumination of the Jubilee Park, which is primarily the company’s affair, several of the city based social organisations have planned to hold programmes on March 3 to pay their tributes to the iconic personality of the Indian history. These orgnisations will take out colourful pageantry near Food Plaza on March 3 to pay tributes to the visionary.

The Founder’s Day was first instituted by Tata Steel on March 3, 1932. It was DN Madan, Chief Accountant, Tata Iron and Steel Company, who first conceived the idea of observing and celebrating an annual gathering to commemorate the birth anniversary of JN Tata. The Founder’s Day provided him with an opportunity of expressing his regard for the memory of the genius to whose faith and adjustment, energy and perseverance, the works, the towns and the environs of Jamshedpur bear enduring witness.
