State to set up R4C to curb cyber crimes

Monday, 30 September 2019 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

To deal with the rising numbers of cyber crimes, the State Government has planned to set up a Regional Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (R4C) in lines of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).

The R4C will run as the nodal centre to curb cyber crimes. It will develop an early warning system for detection and prevention of cyber crimes so that preventive action can be taken.

Under the I4C, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is taking up various steps, including capacity building and public awareness, for curbing cyber crimes. The Ministry is coordinating with other countries regarding cyber crime control and I4C will be playing a major role in this regard.

The MHA has asked all the State Governments to set up R4C and share information with I4C.

The coordination between I4C and R4Cs will also promote inter-State collaboration for handling multi jurisdictional cyber crime cases.

An analyzer unit called National Cybercrime Threat Analytics Unit (NCTAU) will be set up to analyse all sorts of information relating to cyber crimes. From the NCTAU, cyber crime trends and threat perceptions would be known.

The NCTAU will develop an online platform for sharing inputs to the State Governments so that State police will take up tips in this regard.

In the meantime, the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal has been made operational for reporting of all cyber crimes.

There is a focus on cyber crimes against women and children and more than 2,000 complaints have been reported and the State Governments have started handling the cases in an effective manner.

The National Cybercrime Forensic Laboratory with modern tools and well qualified staffs has also been set up. Besides, a Cybercrime Ecosystem Management Unit (CEMU) through which cyberdosts will be developed making the system vibrant.
