State-level event held on Denotified Tribes Day

Sunday, 01 September 2024 | Staff Reporter | bhopal

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that the people of Denotified, Nomadic, and Semi-nomadic communities in the state will reap all the benefits of welfare schemes. He acknowledged the long history of courage and bravery demonstrated by these communities.

Yadav emphasized that the state government is committed to fully supporting the youth and other talents from nomadic and semi-nomadic castes in their pursuit of education, career-building, and a brighter future.

Yadav was addressing the state-level program of Denotified Tribes Day at Rabindra Bhawan, Bhopal on Saturday. Chief Minister Yadav also saw the exhibition of the Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Welfare Department and dedicated the department's portal 'Samarth'.

The Chief Minister announced that efforts will be made to officially recognize the original residence of nomadic and semi-nomadic castes by documenting one place as their permanent address. This will facilitate the preparation of necessary records, ensuring that those currently excluded from welfare schemes will also receive their benefits. Specific castes such as Bhaat, Charan, Beldar, Pardhi, and Kuchbandiya will be included in these schemes, while a special plan will be created for groups like Kabutari, Kalbelia, Sikligar, and Banchhra.

Housing provisions, including basic amenities like electricity and water under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, will be arranged for castes like Gadariya, Lohar, and others. The youth from these communities will receive necessary training, including opportunities in the Agniveer and other government schemes, as well as in sports.

Additionally, efforts will be made to promote the folk culture of these castes at the divisional level, and they will be integrated with the Geeta Bhawans being established in cities. Manglik buildings will also be constructed, and ongoing dialogues will be held to support their development.

Yadav emphasized the importance of modernizing essential social customs. He stated that the actions of a few individuals involved in crime should not label the entire community as criminals. He noted that, with changing times, the focus has shifted towards punishing the individual offender rather than holding the entire community responsible.

Banjara folk artist Sushri Reena Pawar presented an impressive traditional dance in the programme. Chief Minister Yadav announced an incentive of Rs 21 thousand to her for her effective presentation. Chief Minister Yadav congratulated the department and the organizations for observing Denotifed Tribes Day in the entire state.

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Welfare, Backward Classes, and Minority Welfare, Krishna Gaur, highlighted that on Denotified Tribes Day, a special exhibition was organized to inform about welfare schemes for nomadic and semi-nomadic castes. These communities, once labeled as criminals by the British, were freed from that stigma after independence and are now benefiting from development initiatives. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chief Minister are committed towards the welfare of these castes. The state has made provisions for hostels, scholarships, and house rent assistance for students from these communities, with increased scholarship amounts and special encouragement for girls' education. The state government remains dedicated to the development of these castes, their villages, and settlements.
