SP split, Akhilesh and Ram Gopal expelled

Saturday, 31 December 2016 | PNS | Lucknow

The Samajwadi party formally split on Friday as the party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav expelled his son and the chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and party general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav from the party for six years.

Ram Gopal Yadav dismissed the  expulsion  `` deep resentment prevails among the rank and file of the party over the present state of affairs in the party and in such a situation there is no need of taking permission from the president.

Ram Gopal said that such action by the president to expel him and CM is an act of desperation as the party leaders are with them.  “Why they are afraid of facing the delegate meet. It shows that they have accepted their defeat,” he claimed.  Earlier, the party had rejected the delegate meet and had served show cause notices to both Akhilesh and Ramgopal.

Akhilesh camp has convened emergency ``national delegates convention ‘here on January 1. The circular for the convention was issued by Ram Gopal Yadav. Akhilesh Yadav is likely to be elected as the national president of the party in the convention.  Akhilesh camp is also likely to move to the election commission for freezing the `cycle’ election symbol of the party.

Mulayam Singh Yadav on  Friday issued a `show cause notice’ to his chief minister  son asking him to explain as to why action be not taken against him for  indulging in act f indiscipline by issuing parallel list of candidates.

Both the camps are now involved in no holds barred battle for the trial of strength.

Mulayam Singh Yadav has called the meeting of the 401 candidates for the 2017 assembly elections announced by the SP supremo, here on Saturday.   SP sources said Mulayam Singh has called the meeting of the candidates to ascertain whether they would remain loyal to him or they may defect to the Akhilesh camp.

Both Mulayam and Akhilesh camp have stepped up their efforts to capture the party.  To counter the `emergency national convention’ move by the Akhilesh camp, SP supremo has decided to dissolve the national executive council of the party.  SP general secretary Amar Singh, on vacation in london, has been summoned to lucknow to supervise the fire fighting operation   and to manage the crisis engulfing the party.

SP general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav said here that `` several thousand public representatives of the party have demanded from him to convene emergency national delegate convention to issue directions for steering the party in right direction’’.

Without naming any leader Ram Gopal Yadav said ``  some people in the party deliberately engineered anti  party activities as the writings on the wall were clear that  Akhilesh Yadav government  will be voted back to power due to its spectacular   performance during the last five years’’.

Ram Gopal Yadav who arrived here on Friday said that `` now there was no scope of any compromise or reapproachment and the list of candidates released by Akhilesh on Thursday was the real list of the party and I fully endorse that’’.

Targeting Shivpal Yadav and Amar Singh he said ``I am at my wits ends to ascertain as to what was the hurry for Mulayam Singh to release the list of candidates on December 28 as he had asked me to come to lucknow on January 1to discuss the matter’’. He said added `` I believe Netaji announced under the pressure of some person’’.

launching a scathing attack on state SP president Shivpal Yadav, he said ``  . only person is the root of the problem in the party on whose advice Mulayam Singh Yadav had removed Akhilesh from the post of the state president of the party and because of this leader the rank and file of the party  are angry, frustrated and in a state of confusion’’
