Smart classrooms for 25 Govt schools

The Chhattisgarh Government is in the process of setting up smart classrooms in  25 Government schools in the insurgency-infested Kanker district of Bastar region.

The classes are being established to enhance learning outcomes of school children using diverse techniques.

One of the techniques is to empower teachers by training them to use multi-media content and interactive techniques, officials stated.

Using the right mix of conventional blackboard based teaching along with interactive multimedia techniques, the administration believes that students will have an improved learning experience.

This will convert into better learning outcomes, they stated.

The use of multimedia techniques will also help slow learners to grasp difficult conconcepts easily.

If used appropriately, especially among high school and higher secondary school students,  smart class technology will have a multiplier effect  in learning outcomes, as curriculum in higher classes includes complex concepts which could be taught well with the help of 3D video and animations.

The interaction of technology and content with students and teachers during  teaching –learning process, the students will be more attentive to what is being taught in the class.

Notably, the Chhattisgarh Government is also constructing a ‘Mega Science Centre’ at the district level and ‘mini science centres’ in the seven blocks of the insurgency infested district.

The Mega Science Centre is being established at the Kanker district headquarters. 

Currently, the district does not have any Science Centre or Interactive Museum to help children explore and experience the wonders of science, officials stated.

The Mega Science Centre would demonstrate interactive science models covering all the major themes which the students can demonstrate and understand the process involved.

All the experiments and models would cover standard theories and principles of the respective subject. 

At least one batch of teachers would be trained on the importance of Science Centre ( both for Mega and Mini Science Centre), explaining the use of all experiments, how it should be demonstrated to children, the information to be shared with the children and the principles to be explained to them.

In the best science centres, learning is multi-sensory and the exhibits support many learning styles and abilities.
