Amid the Supreme Court decision to grant bail to former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the alleged liquor policy linked money laundering scam, the Delhi BJP on Friday called the verdict a "procedural order" and said that this does not absolve him of the offence.
BJP New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj told a press conference at the BJP headquarters that Sisodia has been granted bail because of his appeal based on "delay in trial". "Manish Sisodia's bail has been rejected seven times in court (previously). This was his eighth attempt, and today, his lawyers got the bail because they appealed based on delay in trial, not on merit," she said.
Swaraj alleged that AAP is involved in corruption and will be held accountable in front of the court of law sooner or later "It does not absolve him (Sisodia) of the offence. He will still be held accountable for fooling the people of Delhi," the BJP leader said, claiming that there is evidence against the AAP leader that establishes his involvement in the "scam" case linked to the now-scrapped liquor policy of 2021-22.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said that while the BJP respects the decision of the court, Manish Sisodia and the entire AAP should understand that they are now on bail, not free from crime.
“We can understand the happiness of AAP leaders on Sisodia getting bail, but today their dark face is also clearly visible in the matter of accepting the decisions of the court. The people who are calling the Supreme Court's decision a victory of justice are the same people who were calling the Delhi Municipal Corporation Alderman decision of the Supreme Court last week a murder of democracy,” he alleged.
Hitting out at the AAP leaders, the Delhi BJP chief asked if bail granted on the condition of a bond of Rs 30 lakh, passport confiscated, attendance at the police station twice a week and keeping the location on for 24 hours will be called a victory of truth. “The people of Delhi are watching and understanding everything and in January 2025 they will give the ultimate punishment to Aam Aadmi Party for its corruption and aggression,” Sachdeva said.
Meanwhile, Delhi Congress President Devender Yadav said that law should take its own course and the guilty should be punished. “Delhi Congress had always maintained the stand that those responsible for the liquor scam should be punished and the innocent should get justice,” he said.
