Samajwadi Party announced Pawan Katiyar as its candidate for the by-poll to Sikandara Assembly seat in Kanpur Dehat where polling is scheduled on December 21.
The seat fell vacant following the death of sitting BJP member Mathura Prasad Pal, who died after a prolonged illness on July 22. The last date for filing of nomination for the by poll is December 4.
In a surprise move, SP became the first party to announce its first candidate for the 2019 lok Sabha elections in UP. Rakesh Sacchan has been has been named as party candidate from Fatehpur lok Sabha constituency. He was elected to lok Sabha from Fatehpur in 2004 election as Samajwadi Party candidate. In 2014 lok Sabha election however, he lost the seat to Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti of the BJP.
