Ramesh Jena's aide Jitu injured in encounter

Notorious criminal Jitu Sethi, who has many cases pending against him and is a close aide of arrested former MlA Ramesh Jena, was injured in an encounter with police at Gopalpur on Friday.

Sethi was hit by a bullet on his left leg in the operation carried out by a joint team of Golanthara and Gopalpur police stations officials. Sources said during the raid Sethi opened three rounds of fire first, after which the police retaliated. A gun and some live ammunitions were seized from him.

He was admitted at the MKCG Medical College Hospital here.

Acting on a tipoff that Sethi was hiding in the cashew plantation near the Dhabaleswar temple in the Gopalpur area, the police conducted the raid in the cashew field.

As many as 14 criminal cases are pending against him at different police stations in Brahmapur and Ganjam police districts which include serious offences like murder.

Sources said Sethi has six cases pending against him at the Gopalpur police station, four at the Baidyanathpur police station and four in other police stations.

Meanwhile, the Brahampur police arrested Pintu Jena, nephew of the former Sanakhemundi MlA Ramesh Jena, from Mumbai.

Sources said he was involved in many criminal activities of Jena. He was brought to the city.
