Rahul's road show fails to enthuse party workers

Tuesday, 31 January 2017 | PNS | Lucknow

The impressive road-show by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday, failed to enthuse his party workers who are upset with the recent coalition with Samajwadi Party.

“What we are going to gain from Rahul’s roadshow, especially in lucknow, when not a single Congress candidate has been fielded from the state capital,” questioned a minority leader.

“If the party high command (read Rahul Gandhi) seriously analyse what Congress gained after allying with Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party  or from the joint show on Sunday, then he should compare this with the Deoria se Dilli Kisan Yatra which had a huge following,” the peeved leader said.

Another UP Congress Committee office bearer, who was present at the Rahul-Akhilesh joint show on Sunday, too was not impressed with the turnout during the show.

“Many colleagues and I spent huge sums to ensure that Rahul’s Deoria-Delhi Yatra and roadshows were successful. We kept on spending to support Rahul’s s call of forming the government in UP after 27-years. Now, will the party brass explain why we should spend when neither me nor my colleagues are in the fray in lucknow,” the leader asked.

The leader said that only lucknow (East) seat is left to be announced and he seemed sure even that would be given to a SP leader, though to fool the public, the SP leader might contest on the Congress symbol.

He found it ironical that the oldest and biggest political outfit of the country had to join hands with the SP. “Even as nominations for the fourth phase has already started, the two parties are yet to finaslise seats on which the Congress or SP would contest,” he pointed out.
