Punjab Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar on Wednesday emphasized the urgent need to enhance road safety measures and streamline public services in the state during a meeting with the All India Federation of Motor Vehicles Department Technical Executive Officers Association. The delegation, comprising 14 members, met the Minister to discuss strategies for improving licensing, registration, fitness certification, enforcement, taxation, and overall road safety.
Bhullar underscored the state government’s commitment to adopt best practices from other states to bolster transport administration. Highlighting recent initiatives such as the Sadak Surakhiya Force and the Farishtay Scheme, he outlined the state's proactive efforts in public safety.
In a significant announcement, Bhullar revealed plans for Punjab to host a national-level conference on road safety in November. This event aims to unite experts nationwide in devising innovative strategies and sharing best practices to enhance road safety across Punjab and beyond.
Federation president Ashfaq Ahmad commended Punjab's initiatives and shared successful practices implemented in other states. He emphasized the Federation's role in promoting road safety and enhancing revenue collection through effective vehicle enforcement systems. Ahmad also stressed the importance of technically qualified officers in achieving these objectives, citing legal mandates and Supreme Court guidelines.
The meeting concluded with optimism for collaborative efforts between Punjab's government and the Federation to further mitigate road accidents and improve transport management in the state.
