In the lead-up to Independence Day 2024, Punjab Police has ramped up its security efforts across the state, conducting a comprehensive Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at 170 railway stations to ensure public safety.

The operation, orchestrated under the directives of the state Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, took place on Friday from 10 am to 3 pm, simultaneously across all 28 police districts. Special Director General of Police (Special DGP), Law and Order, Arpit Shukla, who closely monitored the state-wide initiative, emphasized the importance of vigilance and efficiency during the operation.

The Special DGP noted that the police teams were tasked with meticulously searching railway stations and their surrounding areas, utilizing sniffer dogs to assist in the detection of any suspicious activity.

To maintain a balance between thorough security measures and public convenience, the operation involved the deployment of approximately 250 police parties, comprising over 2000 police personnel. Each railway station was monitored by at least two police teams, operating under the supervision of an SP-rank officer. The police personnel were instructed to approach their duties with professionalism and courtesy, ensuring that the public was treated respectfully throughout the operation.

Apart from this, Commissioners of Police (CPs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) were also asked to carry out checking of all the stationed vehicles, especially those parked for over three days, around the railway stations by using the Vahan app.

During the operation, a total of 1,778 individuals were frisked at various railway stations across the state. The police also conducted a detailed inspection of 1,851 vehicles parked in and around the stations, paying special attention to those that had been parked for over three days. Out of these, 628 vehicles were flagged for further investigation. Additionally, 31 suspicious individuals were detained for questioning, highlighting the operation's effectiveness in preempting potential threats.
