A team of town police led by its officer in charge Deobrata Poddar today conducted a surprise search in a bus coming from Bihar's Sasaram Aurangabad district.
The search was without noise or any inconvenience to the interstate bus passenger.
Drugs come here from Mohaniya from Bihar's Sasaram. It comes mostly by bus.
The surprise search was aimed at ascertaining it.
The search didn't yield any recovery nevertheless the message of police looking for drug peddlers was very significant.
Drugs are merchandised here in selected pockets of the town. One is Zila School chowk, said police sources.
The other is Jail Hata near the ADB branch of the SBI. There is one more locale close to the Beesfutta Pul. Downtown Pahari mohalla is infamous for it.
Police sources said there is a close and well knit drug network. In its merchandising small children play a major role.
Children are engaged in this deadly trade for two purposes. First, they are so small that no one can doubt them. Second, they know how to do as for every 'Purya' of drugs, be it 5mg, 7mg or 10 mg that they reach the addict they are paid 20 rupees to 30 rupees.
Girls and women are involved in it. People of all religions are involved in it. There are tribal, Hindu and Muslim.
Drug peddlers hardly use cell phones when striking a deal. It arouses suspicion among the new buyers and no peddler wants his business to flop.
Residents have welcomed the surprise search launched by the town police officer in charge Deobrata Poddar saying it will instil fear among the peddlers.
Residents want more such surprise raids in other sites here in the town.
