Union Minster of State for Railways Manoj Sinha said that the priority of the Union government was now to enhance passenger amenities and their safety, rather than launching new trains.
Speaking to the media in Bareilly after inspecting the Bareilly-Badaun rail route, Sinha said that instead of increasing new trains, the Modi government is working on prevention of rail accidents and providing comfort and safety to passengers by strengthening he basic infrastructure.
“We do not want that mishaps like what happened recently in Kanpur Dehat should happen again,” he said.
Sinha said that if everything goes as per schedule no passenger will have to wait for reservation of seats by 2020 and confirm tickets will be available as per demand any time.
Blaming rail fracture as the reason behind train mishap in Kanpur Dehat, the Railway minister said that these incidents are common in winters.
“Railways is conducting research to develop tracks which could withstand severe cold. A team of Research Design and Research Organisation (RDSO) scientists is working on this,” he said.
