Nutrition Awareness Rath rolled out to launch Nutrition Month

Friday, 06 September 2024 | PNS | Jamshedpur

To mark the commencement of National Nutrition Month, which runs from 1st to 30th September, District Magistrate cum Deputy Commissioner  Ananya Mittal and Deputy Development Commissioner  Manish Kumar flagged off the Nutrition Awareness Rath from the Collectorate premises today. The initiative, part of the broader Nutrition Campaign, aims to promote awareness about healthy diets, hygiene, and best nutritional practices throughout the district.

In attendance were officers and employees from the Social Welfare and Health Departments, underscoring the importance of the campaign. The Nutrition Awareness Rath will travel across all blocks, panchayats, and villages, engaging women and children with information about the benefits of proper nutrition. The primary goal is to educate communities about the significance of balanced diets, particularly for women and children, and to promote healthy lifestyle habits.

Speaking at the event, the District Magistrate emphasized the critical role of nutrition in the overall health and development of women and children, noting that proper nutrition during pregnancy and early childhood is essential. He highlighted that breastfeeding for the first six months and transitioning to a nutrient-rich diet thereafter are key practices for healthy child development. He urged all stakeholders, including health department workers, Sahiyas, and Anganwadi workers, to collaborate in spreading this vital message.

The District Magistrate cum Deputy Commissioner appealed to all stakeholders to actively participate in this campaign. He said that nutrition has a significant impact on the overall health and development of our children and women. He called upon everyone to work together to ensure good nutrition of children and women. He said that nutrition is very important for women and children. Nutrition is very important during pregnancy and after the birth of the child. Breastfeeding should be done for six months after the birth of the child and after that the diet should be full of high nutrients. In this direction, health department workers, Sahia, Anganwadi workers and assistants make women aware.

The event concluded with participants taking a nutrition oath and joining a signature campaign, pledging to make the district malnutrition-free, ensure healthy childhoods, and raise awareness among pregnant and lactating mothers about proper nutrition. The commitment reflects a district-wide effort to foster a healthier future for women and children, underpinned by this month-long awareness drive.
