Non-payment of salaries to DCW employees for last 6 months takes centre stage

Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, has expressed concern over the non-payment of salaries to the employees of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) for the last 6 months. He stated that the non-payment of salary has created a livelihood crisis for them. In this regard, Gupta wrote a letter to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi on August 13, requesting him to instruct the Delhi government to release the pending salaries of the commission’s employees. Taking a notice on this, the Lieutenant Governor has asked the commission to take necessary action on the matter.

The Leader of Opposition mentioned that last week, a delegation of DCW employees met him and reported that they have not received their salaries for 6 to 9 months. As a result, they are facing severe financial hardships. Many employees are solely dependent on their salaries for medical treatment and medications.

Gupta added that some women, who were victims of domestic violence and acid attacks, were also appointed as employees in the Delhi Commission for Women. However, due to non-payment of salaries for several months, they are now facing severe financial crises. These women should be paid promptly, as withholding their salaries is not just an economic issue but a serious violation of their rights.

Gupta also pointed out that it is not just the employees but also the social institutions receiving grants from the Delhi Commission for Women that have not been paid. Consequently, these institutions are unable to pay their employees. He has urged the Lieutenant Governor to intervene and ensure that these female employees receive their salaries, so they don’t have to struggle to make ends meet on meager wages.
