A bus-truck collision left nine persons dead and two dozen injured in on the Basti-Faizabad highway in Sant Kabirnagar on Monday morning.
Reports said that a private bus, which was on way to Ayodhya from Gorakhpur hit a divider and then rammed into the truck leaving five persons dead on the spot and four others succumbed after being shifted to the District Hospital.
Among the 21 injured admitted to hospital, the doctors declared three of them as `critical’. The deceased were identified as Ram Chandra Maurya (48), Savitri Devi (42), Ajay Yadav (17), Ayodhya Yadav (50), Mohamed Hanif (35), Rakesh Yadav of Khajni in Gorakhpur Besdies, driver Shailesh Yadav (36) and cleaner Ratan Kumar Yadav (40) from Kurawali of Mainpuri also died. Efforts are underway to identify a victim who was also killed. All the bodies have been sent for autopsy and a case has been registered.
Meanwhile eight more persons were killed in separate mishaps reported from Balrampur, Bijnore, and Shamli.
In Balrampur, three persons, including a minor, were killed and as many injured when a truck turtle on their jeep near Aabar village on Sundaynight. The victims, hailing from Dharampur village, were travelling in the jeep when a sugarcane-laden truck moving alongside suddenly lost control and overturned on it. The deceased were identified as Noorjahan (52), Shabeena (45) and Rehan (14). The injured were taken to the district hospital.
Elsewhere in Bijnore, a speeding bus (UK-07PA-1582) collided head-on with an Alto car (UP14AZ-6278) near Sai Temple on Nagina Road on Monday morning killing three of a family travelling in the car while another was battling for his life. The deceased were identified as Kuldeep (40), his wife Madhubala (38) and Rajan (24). Kuldeep’s son Roshi was admitted to a hospital.
Angry locals later blocked the road and staged a protest. However, senior police officers reached the spot and pacified the protesters to clear the blockade. A case was registered against the bus driver and efforts were underway to arrest him.
In last mishap reported from Shamli, two of a family were killed and three others severely injured when a newly- constructed house collapsed at Pawti Kala village of Kairana on Sunday evening.
As per reports, Mohammed Aleem’s wife Muddi and five-year-old son Afzal were killed in the house collapse. Their other children Rizwana, Sania and Akmal were rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. A case was registered in this regard.
