The State Assembly was adjourned for 30 minutes on Thursday when the main Opposition the Congress created bedlam over damage of crops due to hailstorms during Question Hour, and demanded adequate compensation to farmers besides a discussion under Section 130.

When Mahendra Singh Kalukheda of Congress asked a question to Revenue Minister Karan Singh Verma about the compensation to farmers whose crops were damaged, Speaker Ishwardas Rohani informed the House that a discussion on the subject under Section 139 would be take place next week and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and leader of the Opposition Ajay Singh agreed.

Kalukheda said crops were damaged due to hailstorms in two villages in Ratlam district. When Verma was about to give reply, the Congress members started demanding compensation to peasants and a discussion under Section 130 instead of under 139.

Congress members trooped to the Well and shouted slogans such as ‘Yah sarkar kissan virodhi hei, yah sarkar nehi chalegi, kisano ko paryapt muabja do’. Amid pandemonium, Rohani asked to continue the Question Hour and members from the Treasury Bench asked questions while Ministers concerned replied.

The Congress members continued creating ruckus for about 20 minutes while the Speaker requested them to take their seats but the Congress members did not relent. The Speaker then adjourned the House for 30 minutes. This was for the first time in the current session that the Opposition members disrupted the Question Hour.

However, when the House resumed after adjournment, the proceedings began normally.
