Former Judge Balakrishna Mohapatra was sworn in as the State Information Commissioner (SIC) at the Raj Bhavan here on Friday.
Governor Ganeshi Lal administered the oath to Mohapatra in the presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy and Leader of Opposition Pradipta Naik.
A notification regarding the appointment of Mohapatra as the SIC had been issued by the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department on July 7.
Prior to this, Mohapatra served as the District and Sessions Judge of Ganjam. He was also a Member-Secretary to the State Legal Services Authority.
