A city medico is feared drowned picnicking with friends on the outskirts of Bhopal on Sunday.
Search and rescue operations were continuing till late evening after Dr. Ashwin Krishnan Aiyyar, 28, was reportedly swept away by gushing waters at the Digambar waterfalls in the Shahganj area on the outskirts of the state capital.
As per the Shahganj police, Dr. Aiyyar, employed with the People’s hospital was picnicking with friends, Ayush, Kaushiki, Akanksha and Abhishek when the incident happened.
Meanwhile, Raksha, 28, and Ranu, 22, drowned while taking a ceremonial dip in the Narmada river in the Seoni Malwa region of Narmadapuram. The young women, belonging to the same family, were swept away while bathing at the Bhiladiya Ghat on the occasion of Rishi Panchmi. Search and rescue operations were called off after nearly eight hours and are scheduled to continue on Monday morning.
In a separate incident, a boat carrying eight people capsized in the Khategaon area of Dewas.
While seven of the people were rescued and brought to safety by boatmen present in the area, one person was still missing till late evening. Rachna Kushwaha, a student of class 12, drowned in the Mahendra sagar lake of Tikamgarh.
Her body was recovered after passers-by noticed her slippers and mobile phone on the banks of the lake. Police are investigating the matter.
