Mayawati criticize centre and state govt

Saturday, 31 May 2014 | PNS | Lucknow

Demanding imposition of President’s rule as `jungle raj’ prevails in the State, Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati, also targeted new Government at the Centre. She questioned the ideology and promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the context of his meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif, induction of ministers with criminal background, Article 370 and even inclusion of Smriti Irani in cabinet.

“Modi has always talked about his ideology and honesty. But what happened when he did the same as the UPA government by talking to Nawaz Sharif even after saying that talks and terrorism cannot go side by side,” she told a press conference here. Mayawati said she has no reservation on the educational qualification of Ms Irani but how can Modi accept such a leader who has given false affidavits during elections.  “There are around 30 per cent ministers with criminal background in the Modi ministry when he had promised during the campaigning to clean Parliament from criminals,” she added. Without making her party’s view on Article 370 known, the BSP president said the BJP should clarify its stand on the issue rather than its leader giving contradictory statements. At “present, BJP is just trying to take political mileage and create a deep Hindu-Muslim polarisation on the issue without really wanting to do anything on this controversial matter,”she said. However, Mayawati appreciated the first decision of the Narendra Modi government to set up the Special Investigation Team (SIT)to bring back black money from foreign countries. “It is a good move and the entire black money stashed in foreign banks should be brought back and distributed among the poor to uplift their economic and social status,” she suggested.

Commenting on the Centre’s letter to the state  government to prevent crime against Dalits in UP, Mayawati said such letters have no relevance as commitment of the Centre as well as the state government was required to end atrocities on Dalits.  “All the governments have done politics over Dalit issue and were never serious to end their woes. Now it has to be seen what the new BJP government really wants to do for Dalits,” the BSP supremo said.

Taking on State government, Mayawati, reiterated her demand for imposition of President’s rule in wake of the ‘Jungle raj’ prevailing in the state in the present Samajwadi Party regime. ``I am repeatedly saying that the law and order situation in the State has deteriorated and now the gangrape in Badaun and increase of crimes on running trains and at other places has created a panic in the common masses,” she claimed.  She said,”the SP government will automatically fall within next one year and her party has already started preparing itself for the mid-term polls in the state.”  Demanding a CBI probe  into the Badaun gangrape and murder of two sisters, Mayawati said the power crisis in the state has also caused miseries for the people. “ This SP government has failed in all the fields and the development programmes have been stalled,” she said while questioning that there is no reason seen why the governor is waiting to send his recommendation for imposition of President’s rule in the state.

Talking about the power crisis in the state, she said “the SP government is insensitive towards the peoples’ woes and electricity is just been given to the areas of the family members of the Mulayam Singh Yadav.”

“We think that in next five months, the situation will worsen more and then the governor will be forced to send his recommendation for the President’s rule,” she claimed. Apprehending large-scale rigging in the coming by-elections to 11 assembly and one lok Sabha seats, BSP supremo Mayawati also announced that her party would skip the bypolls. ‘There is no need to use our strength in the by-elections when all knows how the Samajwadi Party would rig the polls like they did in the past,’ she claimed.   She said BSP in the past did not contest the bypolls after the 2012 assembly elections and now they will continue to do so this time to. ‘In the by-elections, the Election Commission has no say

and the state government misuses power to enable the ruling party candidate to win it. Hence there is no use of contesting such elections,’ Mayawati asserted. By-elections to 11 assembly and one each of the legislative council and the Mainpuri lok Sabha seats would be held very soon as the legislators have vacated the seat after being elected to the lok Sabha. SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav has vacated the Mainpuri seat and retained the Azamgarh seat after being elected from both the seats.
