Eleven Brahmin boys wore the sacred thread near the Jagannath Temple on Monday. All the boys who were from poor families were between the age groups of 13 to 15 years.
The UgrataraYubak Sangha organised the ceremony in front of Ugratara temple near the west gate of the Jagannath Temple.
The boys were from Keonjhar, Nayagarh, Jajpur, Puri and other districts. As they arrived on Sunday they were offered free lodging along with parents and relatives here. Early on Monday the boys practiced fast till the end of ceremony at late afternoon.
Apart from boys, their parents and in-law families were offered new dresses and requisite materials for rituals free of cost by the Sangha.
The boys were also offered, a pair of silk garments and a brass pot for free.
After the ritual was over, the bachelors joined a procession called Rosani.
Hundreds of people, who are members, supporters and donors including go-getter were invited to join a feast. In the night a melody show was scheduled by the Sangha for the families and kith and kin of the boys.
