Lieutenant Governor and chairman of Delhi Development Authority Vinai Kumar Saxena on Wednesday inaugurated 22 developmental projects in 18 villages of South West Delhi under Dilli Gramoday Abhiyan.

Speaking on the occasion, Saxena said, “Dilli Gramoday Abhiyan was aligned with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of developing the villages and creating amenities at par with those in the cities.”

Further, an official from Raj Niwas said, “The development works include installation of street lights on several dark stretches, improvement of roads, renovation of community hall, cremation ground and other such facilities that were planned and executed in consultation with the local residents.”

Apart from these development projects, NamoDrone Didi Programme was also launched in the Capital. West Delhi BJP MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat and Vice Chairman DDA Subhasish Panda, were also present on the occasion.

“My endeavour is to develop all the villages of the capital in the same way as other areas of Delhi have been developed,” Saxena said, while lauding the concerned agencies for prompting responding to the needs of the village residents.

“Almost all the unauthorized colonies of Delhi are situated near villages. With the development of facilities in villages, lakhs of people living in these colonies will also benefit. We will soon take appropriate steps to eliminate the problems of roads, drains, sewers and water in Unauthorized Colonies as well,” the Lt Governor said.

Another official said that till date, 552 works worth Rs 508 crore have been sanctioned under this Abhiyan, including 78 by DDA.  Out of these, 35 works have already been completed, which include provision of lighting arrangement, renovation of community halls, development of roads and development of existing cremation ground.

“‘DilliGramodayAbhiyan’ was launched in December 2023 to improve living conditions in villages by extending civic amenities. For development of these villages, the Gram Sabha Area Fund to the tune of Rs 960 crore that was lying unused with Delhi Government, was transferred to DDA for undertaking various developmental works in villages of Delhi,” he said.
