To spread awareness among students about e-judiciary and how it has helped in the modern judicial system, legal literacy camps were organised in the schools of Union Territory of Chandigarh.

The State legal Services Authority (SlSA),UT Chandigarh conducted the legal literacy camps in association with students legal literacy clubs being run by the authority in Delhi Public School, Sector 40 here and Government High School, Sector 25 here on Thursday.Under the awareness drive, the authority deputed advocates and law officers to deliver lectures on 'How e-judiciary has helped make court proceedings more transparent' and 'E-procurement: an effective way of increasing transparency' in schools. Also, a lecture on “Fundamental Duties” and “Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO)” was organized.

A spokesperson of the UT SlSA said that the school students were told about benefits of e judiciary and how it has helped in the modern judicial system .They were also told about the significance of the fundamental duties and the speakers motivated the students to act as a representative of the authority to reach to the people at the grassroot level.

“The students were also apprised about the provisions of legal Services Authorities Act 1987 and the work being done by the Authority in creating awareness among all the sections of the Society and the organization of  lok Adalats. The pamphalets of the Authority in all the three languages was distributed among the students,” added the spokesperson.

The UT SlSA also conducted an orientation program for legal aid counsel and mediators at Chandigarh Judicial Academy, Sector-43 here on Thursday. The main objective of conducting the orientation programme was to elevate the competence, professionalism and success of legal aid counsel through practical skills.

The SlSA spokesperson added, “All legal aid counsel, para legal volunteers and mediators attended the programme. The major topics of Orientation programmes were on civil and criminal law. They were told about issues relating to benefits of e judiciary and the basics of law so that they can apply in their professional practice.

lal Chand, Member Secretary, UT Chandigarh SlSA stated that the legal aid counsel and mediators are the base of the Authority and for a strong Authority, the base has to be strong therefore the knowledge among them has to be updated time and again.
