In a major announcement that promises to significantly ease the traffic woes of Jamshedpur, Health Minister Banna Gupta revealed plans for a new bypass road that will divert heavy vehicles away from the city's congested streets. The announcement was made during the foundation-laying ceremony for the much-anticipated Mango flyover, where Minister Gupta highlighted that the bypass, once completed, will help resolve the long-standing issue of traffic jams in Jamshedpur.
The bypass road, which is currently in the planning stages, will provide an alternative route for large vehicles entering the city, helping to decongest main thoroughfares. "The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this bypass is being prepared, and once it's built, Jamshedpur will see a remarkable reduction in traffic," said Minister Gupta.
The announcement coincided with the inauguration of the construction work for the Mango flyover. The foundation stone for pillar number 30 was laid near Blue Bells English High School on Mango Dimna Road, marking the formal commencement of a project that has been eagerly awaited by residents. Gupta emphasized that the Mango flyover will not only improve traffic conditions but will also enhance the overall aesthetics of the city. "This is Jamshedpur's first flyover, and it will add to the city's beauty and grandeur. I would like to thank Chief Minister Hemant Soren for his support in making this project a reality," he added.
Gupta also addressed criticism from opposition parties, stating that many doubted the flyover would ever be built, citing issues like the lack of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Tata Steel. "The opposition made fun of this project, saying it would never happen. But now that the work has started, it is clear to everyone that the flyover will indeed be built," he remarked.
The Mango flyover project, valued at Rs. 461 crore, is expected to transform the city's infrastructure. Initially, Rs. 252 crore has been allocated to kickstart the construction, with the project slated for completion within 18 months. The flyover will consist of 48 pillars and span 2.8 kilometers, with both four-lane and two-lane sections. A significant feature of the project is the overbridge that will cross the Swarnarekha River, providing an essential connection between major city roads.
To ensure the smooth progression of the project, the foundation work has been thoroughly planned, including soil testing and load capacity checks for the pillars. The arrival of a drill machine at the site marks the beginning of the next phase of construction, during which the pillars will be erected.
Minister Banna Gupta did not miss the opportunity to target opposition leaders, accusing them of failing to take similar initiatives during their tenure. "The opposition asks what has been done for Jamshedpur West. I tell them that a hospital worth Rs. 424 crore is being built, and now this flyover is being constructed for Rs. 461 crore," said Gupta. He further pointed out that past governments had not made efforts to resolve issues like traffic congestion or improve healthcare facilities.
In addition to the flyover and bypass, Gupta announced that 200 new CCTV cameras would soon be installed throughout Jamshedpur to enhance security and monitor criminal activities. These cameras, funded in collaboration with Tata Steel, will be connected to a state-of-the-art crime control room, ensuring real-time surveillance of the city.
Gupta highlighted a series of initiatives aimed at transforming Jamshedpur into a medical hub. Plans for a 50-bed Dhanwantri hospital and a 30-bed community health center are also underway, along with six new urban health centers that have already opened in Mango.
In addition, an Outpatient Department (OPD) will soon open at the new MGM hospital in Dimna. "We are moving in the direction of making Jamshedpur a medical hub, and these projects are only the beginning," Gupta said.
