The Unified Command of the State met here on Thursday to review the Maoist scenario in Odisha and review the coordination between various agencies involved in combating the Red rebels.

Chief Secretary AP Padhi, who presided over the meeting, said discussions were held on coordination issues between the State and Central agencies.

“Over last four months, a lot of improvements in infrastructure have been done especially in terms of logistics inside camps,” Padhi said to mediapersons.

Except the Sunki Ghat landmine explosion, there has been decline in Maoist violence and activities. During the recently concluded panchayat polls, instances of Maoist violence were less as compared to previous elections,” added Padhi .

The Chief Secretary also said completion of Gurupriya Bridge in Malkangiri will improve connectivity in the far flung areas and also will be helpful in bolstering security operations.

Sources said besides improving infrastructure and communications, discussions were held to lay emphasis on developmental schemes and make the administration more responsive to the local problems in Maoist infested districts of Malkangiri, Rayagada and Koraput.

DGP KB Singh said discussions were held on various operational and administrative matters. “We also discussed on development of infrastructure, road connectivity and communication,” he said.

“Besides, joint operations, deployment of forces, sharing of intelligence between different States and Central agencies were also discussed during the meeting,” Singh added.

Officials of Odisha police and higher officials of BSF, CRPF and Intelligence Bureau were present.
