Poet Nayak’s statue unveiled at Jharsuguda 

Jharsuguda: Revenue Divisional Commissioner (Northern Division) Niranjan Sahu unveiled a statue of poet Binod Chandra Nayak in the presence of district Collector Saroj Kumar Samal and SP Bikash Chandra Das, Vedanta CEO CN Singh, former Vice-Chancellor Dhrubraj Naik at the District Culture Centre (DCC) premises here on Friday. The DCC has, meanwhile, been renovated, for which the Vedanta spent Rs 45 lakh from its CSR fund.

Campaign on GRPS held in BBSR 

Bhubaneswar: A State-level campaign on gender-responsive public services (GRPS) was held here at the Red Cross Bhawan on Saturday being organised by the ActionAid in collaboration with the CCWD. The objective was to sensitise young urban women and girls living in poverty, said CCWD secretary Sadashiv Swain. Among others, Usarani Behera, Sarojini Brahma spokes. Members of the Bhubaneswar Young Urban Women Forum actively participated and  gave their views relating to GRPS.

BJP holds fundraising for Ayodhya temple in B’pur

Brahmapur: The BJP Ganjam district unit launched a fundraising campaign here on Thursday as part of the ongoing nationwide fundraiser to build a Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Money was collected from traders and individuals by walking around Gandhinagar Square, New Barracks Street, Girija Square, Giri Market, Dalua Street and many more places. BJP State vice-president Bhrugu Baxipatra, district president Bibhuti Jena, campaign chief Dr Subash Sahoo, district in-charge Ashok Mishra, State executive members Saroj Sabat, Balakrishna Samantray, Sunil Sahu, Ram Kumar Patro, Pravat Kiran Sadangi, Subhasini Pattnaik, Namita Rani Panda, Kamana Padhy were present.

Training for Matsya Mitra begins at Puri 

Puri: A pilot programme on agripreneurship for Matsya Mitra, sponsored by the Union Ministry of Rural Development, was virtually inaugurated by MoRD Secretary Nagendra Nath Sinha here. Additional Secretary Alaka Upadhaya, Joint Secretary Leena Johari, District Fisheries Officer,Debendra Nath Behera, DPM,OLM, Banaja Kanta Mahari, SDR,Odisha Dhobei Pradhan, Assistant Controller Surya Mishra and Director RSETI Bishnu Charan Dalai were present. Sinha briefed the participants on the prospects of the programme and said that the training woud certainly help the inclusive development of fish farmers. Total 22 participants from Puri district have joined the 60-day programme. coordinated by Prativa Sahu.

Activist Biswajit awarded Shantiseva Samman 

Bhubaneswar: Social activist Biswajit Pattnaik was awarded with the Shantiseva Samman-2021 and Corona Yoddha Samman 2021 at a function at BJB Nagar here for serving people during the Covid-19 pandemic. Additional Traffic DCP Kishore Panigrahi attended as guest and felicitated Patnaik, who is presently secretary of the Niladri Vihar Youth and Cultural Association and is involved for more than 20 years in social service, especially during natural disasters. He is also involved in organising blood donation camps and plantation programmes, said Niladri Vihar Youth and Cultural Association president Prakash Chandra Panigrahi.

Currents 11 win Shailashree Premier League 

Bhubaneswar: The Shailashree Premier League Cricket Tournament, which was organised at Chandrasekharpur here on the lines of the Indian Premier League (IPL) concluded recently.  In the finals, Current 11 beat Shailshreevihar’s Crushers 11 by six runs and emerged champions. Current 11 batting first scored 185 runs in the allotted 15 over. Chasing a target of 186 to win Crushers could score 179 runs. Chief guests social activist Byomkesh Patnaik, Dilip Mohanty and Niladri Vihar Youth and Cultural Association secretary Prakash Chandra Panigrahi awarded the winners with a trophy and cash prize of Rs 8,000.  A trophy and RS 5,000 was provided to the runners-up.
