The department has issued instructions to the secretaries of the Regional Transport Authorities (RTAs) in the State.

Haryana Transport Commissioner Sumita Misra said that there are reports that some goods vehicles are being used to carry passengers in the State and 65 such vehicles have been challaned this year.

The Supreme Court of India has, in its recent judgement also directed the States and their authorities to take sufficient precautions to ensure that in order to prevent accidents, vehicles which are not authorised to carry persons, should not be utilised for the said purpose.

She said that the owners of goods carrier indulged in the practice of carrying passengers just to make some profits at the cost of precious human life.

A public notice has also been published by the department for the information of all concerned to avoid using such vehicles for the purpose of carrying passengers as it endangers the security of passengers being carried in the goods vehicle.
