The teachings of lord Buddha will always remain relevant for humanity. His message of peace, love and brotherhood is as important today as it was centuries ago, said the Governor of Uttarakhand, Krishna Kant Paul while speaking as the chief guest at the international Buddhist conference organised by International Buddha education institute and Youth Action Committee, Uttarakhand at Kashipur on Friday.

He congratulated the organisers for holding the conference on “Reflection on Buddhism in South east Asian Culture and its revival”. He said that lord Budhha had recognised suffering as the basic truth of life and to remove this suffering, he gave the world the eight fold path of right view, right resolve, right speech, right conduct, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right "samadhi" (meditative absorption or union).

The Governor said the Kashipur area had been linked to lord Buddha from ancient times and teachings of Buddha can be found here .The conference and its deliberations will send out a message to the world, he said.

“The teaching of Buddha has stood the test of time and is more relevant today than earlier. World peace and brotherhood can be achieved by following them. “Dhyan”, which is an important part of the Buddhist tradition, is extremely important in today’s stress–filled world. In the globalised era, it is not possible to exist without each other and this the message of love and peace becomes quite relevant. The entire world needs this message of truth, peace and brotherhood,’’ he said.

The Governor gave away awards to Dalai lama’s representative Damdul Dorje (symbol of Peace Award), Dr K Dora Malki Das (from Sri lanka), Bhikshu Vinikabal Gyan Ratna Mahathera (from Bangladesh, Bhikshu Bodhijana (Nepal) and Ratna Yashwant (India). Followers of Buddhism from Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, Korea, Bangladesh, Nepal and Italy were present on the occasion.
