Economic Survey praises UP for COVID-19 control

Sunday, 31 January 2021 | PNS | Lucknow

Uttar Pradesh came in for praise with the Economic Survey 2020-21 released by the Central government on Friday stating that UP successfully managed to restrict the spread of COVID-19 cases at its best.

The survey also mentions that the instant decision of lockdown taken by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath amid the pandemic was one of the major reasons for the effective control of the spread of coronavirus infection across the state.

The survey states, "Uttar Pradesh has much lower cases than what is naturally expected. States like Uttar Pradesh (with a density of 690 persons per square kilometre) have managed the pandemic well. This ultimately held India in good stead."

Lauding the Central government, the cross-country analysis mentioned in the Economic Survey states, " India has been able to effectively manage both the spread of COVID-19 and the fatalities, with 37.1 lakh fewer cases than what was estimated, vis-à-vis the actual cases in the US being more than the estimated cases by 62.5 lakh cases."

It is not the first time that UP has won appreciation in international recognition. Earlier, the World Health Organisation had showered praise on CM Yogi and his government for the COVID-19 management strategy, especially in tracking the high-risk contacts that helped in controlling the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, not only UP is leading in vaccination but it has also set a record in the country for having done most Covid tests in the country. On an average, more than 1.50 lakh Covid tests are being done in the state, again the highest in the country.

It is worth mentioning that being the most populous state with a population of more than 23 crore, as many as 4,63,681 doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the state till now.
