EC stops joining of transferred teachers

Monday, 31 March 2014 | PNS | Dehradun

The State Election Commission stayed the joining of transferred teachers of the State Government citing Model Code of Conduct, which is being enforced in the State due to the ensuing general elections. The teachers were supposed to join their new schools on April 1.

The Primary and Secondary Education department had transferred about two thousand teachers who had applied for voluntary transfers under the new transfer policy of the Education department. The teachers were supposed to join the new assignments on April 1 as the new education session starts on the date.

After the Election Commission’s spanner these teachers would now be able to join their new assignments only after May 16 as the Model Code of Conduct for the general elections would be applicable till that date.

Interestingly, Uttarakhand would again be under the spell of Model Code of Conduct from May 26 due to the Panchayat elections in all the districts of State barring Haridwar. The delay in joining of these teachers, along with the fact that teachers are also assigned for election duties would surely affect academic and other activities in the schools.

The State Government declared 2012-13 as zero session for transfers and did no transfers as it was working on the transfer policy of teachers. The Government formulated a policy for transfers, new joining and promotions in various cadres of teachers in this session.
