Dismiss city Govt, take immediate action to restore constitutional order in Delhi: BJP to Prez Murmu

Saturday, 31 August 2024 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

Members of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, led by Opposition Leader Vijender Gupta, have formally appealed to President Droupadi Murmu for urgent intervention in the ongoing constitutional crisis plaguing Delhi. The delegation met the President and submitted a memorandum highlighting a series of grave concerns about the functioning of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government under Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

“The AAP Government has lost all moral right to govern and has blatantly deceived the mandate given by the people of Delhi,” said Gupta. “We are calling on the President to dismiss this Government and take immediate action to restore constitutional order in Delhi.”

At the forefront is the issue of governance paralysis, with CM Kejriwal in jail for over four months on serious corruption charges related to the Delhi excise policy scam. Despite his imprisonment, Kejriwal has refused to resign, creating an unprecedented situation that has led to a complete breakdown of governance in Delhi. Critical administrative decisions are being delayed, and essential services are severely affected, directly impacting the lives of Delhi’s citizens.

The memorandum also brought attention to significant constitutional violations by the AAP Government. Most notably, the failure to constitute the Sixth Delhi Finance Commission, which has been due since April 2021.

Meanwhile, AAP accused the BJP of having no regard for the Constitution and said, “The BJP approaching the President to dismiss the Arvind Kejriwal Government shows they have already accepted defeat in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.”
