Cong to raise issue of discount in farmers' subsidy in Vidhan Sabha

Friday, 31 October 2014 | PNS | Chandigarh

Criticising the State Government’s move to cut-off subsidy of farmers issued by the Centre, Punjab Congress on Thursday maintained that it would raise the issue in the Vidhan Sabha.

leader of Opposition Sunil Jakhar said that the Central Government had decided to grant Rs1,000 per quintal subsidy for grains seeds to the farmer under National Food Security Mission but Punjab Government is giving Rs700 per quintal.

“The farmers are acquiring a heavy loss due to low prices of cotton and basmati. And above this, Akali-BJP Government is using their money granted for subsidy for another purposes,” said Jakhar. He said that he would raise this issue in the next session of Vidhan Sabha and will demand for the action against the respected officers. Jakhar further explained that the Central Government had issued a letter to the Punjab Government regarding subsidy provided to the farmers of the State but according to the State Agriculture Department, the farmers do not require any subsidy.

“The previous investigation regarding Central subsidy issue of farmers is pending. But this matter is still close in the record room of Vidhan Sabha. The victims are still occupying their high authorities. No action is taken against them. So it would be very difficult to solve this issue,” said Jakhar.
