Central Govt gives 2 lakhs PM housing to Jharkhand

Monday, 09 September 2024 | PNS | Ranchi

After about three years, the Central Government has allotted houses to Jharkhand under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin in the election year.

In the decision taken in the Union Cabinet, a target of building three crore PM houses has been set across the Country. In view of this, PM houses have been allotted to Jharkhand along with other States.

The Central Government has given the target of building 113195 houses to Jharkhand. In this regard, the Union Rural Development Ministry has given the allotment order to Jharkhand. The maximum number of houses have been allotted to Palamu, Garhwa, Giridih and Ranchi districts. Koderma and Khunti districts have got the target of building the least number of houses.

As soon as the target is achieved, the Rural Development Department will start the process of selection of eligible beneficiaries again. An amount of Rs 2 lakh will be allotted to each beneficiary for building a house.

It is noteworthy that Jharkhand Government had prepared a list of 10 lakh beneficiaries in 2020-21 itself and sent it to the Central Government. After reviewing, the Center removed the names of two lakh ineligible beneficiaries from the list. After this, there was a demand to provide housing to eight lakh beneficiaries. The Center put a condition that the pending houses should be completed first, only after that new houses will be allotted.

However, the State Government did the work of building more than two lakh pending houses rapidly, but still 33 thousand houses are pending.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Hemant Soren accused the Central Government of depriving the poor of housing. After this, he started the Chief Minister Abua Housing Scheme. In which approval was given to give two lakh rupees for building a three-room pucca house.

In the first phase, eight lakh beneficiaries were selected, against which two lakh houses have been allotted. However, later the target of providing housing has reached 20 lakh. Now the Central Government has also approved the PM Awas Yojana. Sources said that Jharkhand state has received very less allocation of houses as per the requirement. The state Government is already providing concrete houses to the poor through the Abua Awas Yojana.
