Euphoric over the bail of the former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia by the Supreme Court on Friday, celebrations broke out at the AAP office by the party leaders as well as by his family members at his residence minutes after he got bail.
Sisodia will walk out of jail 17 months after being arrested in connection to the alleged liquor policy linked money laundering scam. At his residence, Sisodia's wife Seema Sisodia and other family members distributed sweets to visitors with smiling faces. Party leaders and workers started streaming in at the AAP headquarters on DDU Marg with the premises reverberating with drum beats.
Several party leaders, including Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, distributed sweets to people who gathered there. Senior AAP leader and Delhi minister Atishi broke down while sharing the news of Sisodia's bail during the inauguration ceremony of a school in Naseerpur. "I want to congratulate every child studying in Delhi schools and their parents because today on this auspicious occasion, Manish Sisodia, the father of Delhi education revolution, who was trapped in a false case and kept in jail for 17 months,” she said while inaugurating the school.
The AAP said the Supreme Court verdict granting bail to Sisodia was a "victory of truth" and hoped that other jailed leaders of the party "will also get justice". Addressing the media, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said Manish Sisodia's bail is a tight slap on dictatorship and on the atrocities of the Modi government.
“For 17 months, you kept a person in jail against whom there was not a single proof, not a single rupee were recovered, no property papers were found. But the ED and CBI people kept on taking dates after dates in court. For 17 months, your only effort was to keep Manish Sisodia in jail.
Today, the decision of the Supreme Court is a victory of the justice system, a victory of democracy and a victory of the sentiments of the people of Delhi and the country,” he said.
Bharadwaj said that the Supreme Court has set an important example for the judiciary of the entire country today.
