CB gets reports of polygraph tests of three accused

The State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) has submitted the lie-detection test reports of the three accused in the Paralakhemundi ACF Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra's death case to the Crime Branch.

The deceased officer’s widow Bidyabharati Panda, Gajapati DFO Sangram Keshari Behera and the ACF’s cook Manmath Kambha underwent the tests earlier in the month.

The Crime Branch would scrutinise the test reports of the three accused and match them with their earlier recorded statements.

Thereafter, the CB would decide its future course of action, said Crime Branch ADG Sanjeeb Panda on Wednesday. On Tuesday, Soumya’s father Abhiram Mohaptra had met the Crime Branch ADG and requested for a reinvestigation of the case. He also demanded transfer of the DFO, arrest of Bidyabharati and to bring some Forest Department staffs and police officials under the purview of investigation. The lie-detection test is critical as the family members of Soumya have been alleging involvement of the accused trio in the death and also named Bidyabharati as a co-accused in the FIR they have lodged at the Paralakhemundi police station following the death of the ACF. On July 11, Soumya Ranjan had been found with burn injuries at his quarters and rushed to a hospital. However, a day later, he succumbed at a private hospital in Cuttack.
