BJP, RSS send clear message against Hindu vigilantism

Sunday, 30 April 2017 | Hari shankar vyas

Both the BJP and RSS are worried over the unruliness in the name of Hinduism. They have sent a strong signal against organisations that are involved in violence in the name of vigilantism, who get into brawls over the National Anthem, and create unnecessary controversies over food preferences.

Sources say that this issue was also discussed in the meeting of Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled States. The party has instructed all CMs that such incidents must be curbed and there must not be any compromise with the law and order situation. This must be noted that when Sulkhan Singh took charge as the DGP of Uttar Pradesh, he gave a stern warning to cow vigilantes. Now, it is being speculated that he issued this statement at the behest of the BJP and State Government. The fact of the matter is that such incidents are also projecting a negative impression of India abroad, and that is one reason why attempts are now being made to put an end to such cases.

Recently, the RSS and BJP had a coordination meeting with the UP Government. In that meeting, the RSS is said to have made it clear that the State Government must control such incidents. It also discussed the incidents in Agra, Saharanpur, and Bareilly and said that the Government should check the enthusiasm of the Right-wing workers. Senior members of the BJP and RSS were present in the meeting along with CM Yogi Adityanath. Some of his ministers were also present in the meeting.

Some days ago, there was an agitation near the Taj Mahal in Agra. Some BJP leaders were also there along with leaders from a Hindu organisation. The party suspended two leaders, Sunil Sharma and Ashok Kushwaha, who were present in the agitation. By taking stern action against these leaders, the BJP has given a strict message to others as well.

Reason for restlessness

MlAs of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, and Rajasthan have nothing to do with the MCD results, yet all eyes are stuck on it. The BJP achieved an impressive victory in the Delhi civic polls, which has only made things challenging for party MlAs of States which will go into elections in the near future. In fact, the BJP did an experiment in MCD elections. To nullify the anti-incumbency factor of 10 years, the party didn’t give tickets to its 153 sitting councillors. Not only this, the BJP also decided that any relative of these councillors will not be given tickets. This experiment was indeed successful and the party achieved majority in all three MCDs. Now, it is being said that the BJP can try out the same strategy in the upcoming Assembly Elections.

Party leaders say that a similar experiment was done successfully in the Surat Municipal Corporation. So possibly, the BJP might use the same technique in Gujarat Assembly Elections too. The party has been ruling in the State for more than two decades, and there is the obvious anti-incumbency factor. Right from the Centre to States and municipal corporations, the BJP is ruling, and all the MPs from the State are from the BJP. Almost all MlAs have won many times. So, possibly many sitting MlAs might not get tickets. In the same manner, the BJP has been ruling in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh for the past 15 years. There too, the anti-incumbency factor is strong. In these two States also, many MlAs have been winning for years, and might not get tickets this time. Obviously, all MlAs are worried. In Rajasthan, the ruling party changes after every five years, but despite that the sitting MlAs are anxious.

Adhir Chowdhury’s diktat

It seems that the president of West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, is controlling the State politics according to his own whims. The leaders who oppose him have either been pushed to the margins or have been thrown out of the party. After taking total control over the organisation, he is now deciding the politics of the alliance too as per his wishes.

Chowdhury has decided that he will not allow any alliance between his party and Mamata Banerjee’s party, the Trinamool Congress (TMC). That is why he is getting closer to the CPM. After the Assembly Elections, he has gone into an alliance with the CPM for local body elections. Now, he is trying to get a Rajya Sabha seat for CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury. Though the CPM had decided that no leader of the party will go to the Rajya Sabha for the third time, it is being said that Yechury will be an exception.

Probably, there was a discussion over this in the meeting between Yechury and Sonia Gandhi. But apparently in a bid to anger Mamata, Chowdhury is pushing for Yechury to be sent to the Rajya Sabha. This must be noted that with all its effort, the Congress will manage to get only one Rajya Seat from West Bengal. Chowdhury’s argument is that Yechury is necessary in the Rajya Sabha for a strong Opposition.

The left Front can’t win any seat on its own. The Congress and left Front will get only one shared seat. Though after getting one seat, 25 votes will be left to them, but there is no use of that as of now. In August, elections will be held for six Rajya Sabha seats from West Bengal. Five seats are likely to go to the TMC kitty, while one could go to the Congress-left combine. If the Congress leaves its claim, the seat can go to Yechury.

MPCC command to ScindiaIJ

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has started attacking Jyotiraditya Scindia. Does this mean that the Congress has decided to give the MPCC command to ScindiaIJ It is being said that Rahul Gandhi has decided to give MP’s command to Scindia and made him the CM face.

For the past few months, there were such speculations but after the Congress victory on Ater seat, Scindia’s chances look bright. Byelections were held on two seats from MP. Ater was Scindia’s responsibility and Kamal Nath was in charge of Bandhavgarh. It was being said that if the Congress gets Ater, Scindia would be in command, and if Bandhavgarh had been won by the party, the State’s reins would have gone into Kamal Nath’s hands.

And had the Congress lost both seats, Digvijaya Singh would have been sent to Madhya Pradesh.

However, there was news that Kamal Nath was not happy and might leave the party. This is also an indication that Scindia’s name has been decided upon. Amidst the infighting in the Congress, Chouhan has started targeting Scindia, claiming he allegedly grabbed the land of the poor in Shivpuri. This is the first political attack on Scindia by Chouhan.

Before this, he targeted the entire Scindia family. It is being said that he was aware of the planning and strategies of the Congress. That is why he alleged during the campaign in Ater that the Scindia family has always suppressed the common man. He also alleged that the Scindia family was helping the English. After that, there was news that Vasundhara and Yashodhara — who are both in the BJP — were miffed. However, it seems that Chouhan has started his preparations, with Scindia as his main opponent.
