BJP launches membership drive in 252 slum clusters

Monday, 09 September 2024 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

Delhi BJP launched a membership drive in 252 slum clusters under the ongoing slum expansion campaign held every Sunday amid political parties bracing for  state assembly elections early next year.

Hitting out at AAP, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said, “People living in slum clusters are enthusiastically becoming BJP members as they are disappointed with the Kejriwal government and have realized that only BJP can connect their  clusters with development.”

With the slum expansion programme ongoing for the last six weeks, the BJP is trying to clinch the crucial Delhi assembly elections. A BJP leader said that the response makes the party sure of a win next year. “BJP is now going on a daily basis in Jhuggi Bastis through Jhuggi Vistaraks and senior leaders are going between Jhuggi Dwellers every Sunday for the last six weeks. The response of Jhuggi Dwellers is very enthusiastic and convinces us that BJP will win hands down in Delhi Assembly election,” said Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor.

Further, Sachdeva claimed that over the past 10 years, the Delhi government under Arvind Kejriwal has done no welfare work for the slum areas through its Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) department and is still issuing orders to demolish slum clusters. “This has left slum dwellers disheartened, and they are now ready to choose BJP for a transformation in their lives,” Sachdeva said.

Union Minister Harsh Malhotra conducted the membership drive at Indira Camp, Patparganj, along with party workers, and said, “Slum dwellers also dream of having clean homes and know that this dream will be realized only when BJP comes to power in Delhi and implements the Prime Minister's Housing Scheme. That is why they are enthusiastically joining the BJP today.”

Making new members for BJP in the Shastri Market and nearby settlements near Vasant Vihar, Co-in-charge of Delhi BJP Dr. Alka Gurjar said, “There is great attraction towards BJP among poor women today because they want to provide a good future for their children, and the Kejriwal government has disappointed slum dwellers.”

Delhi BJP MPs also participated in the drive across the city including South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri conducting the drive at BIW Camp in Badarpur, Northwest Delhi MP Yogendra Chandolia near Udyog Nagar Metro Station, West Delhi MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat at Goyla Dairy Pankaj Garden, New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj at Scindia Camp in Sarojini Nagar, Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal at KP O Cluster.

Further, Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Delhi Assembly Vijendra Gupta made new members at Cluster 18 in Daya Basti while LoP in the Municipal Corporation Raja Iqbal Singh at Atal Basti in Kingsway. They stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP is committed to providing homes to every homeless person.

Moreover, the BJP Minority Morcha's National President Jamal Siddiqui and Delhi President Anees Abbasi conducted a membership drive with great enthusiasm in the Hazrat Nizamuddin area, enrolling hundreds of people as BJP members.

Delhi BJP Media head Praveen Shankar Kapoor ran the membership drive at Peeli Kothi slum cluster with Chandni Chowk Mandal President Rohit Sharma. State Vice President and campaign co-in-charge Rajkumar Bhatia held the membership drive in Adarsh Nagar, Sunita Kangra in the Punjabi Bagh slum cluster, and slum cell convenor Sushil Chauhan conducted it in Sarai Kale Khan. Moreover, BJP MLAs, councilors, state, district, mandal presidents, and officials also participated in the membership drive.
