Chhattisgarh Congress President Deepak Baij on Saturday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government of drowning the country in debt.
Speaking in Raipur, he said: “Till 2014, the total debt of the country was Rs 55 lakh crore; that number has risen to Rs 205 lakh crore in the last 10 years.”
“The Modi government should answer in which work of nation building this huge sum of money was used.
“Now the government is preparing to take another loan," he said.
Questioning whether jobs were created on the same scale as the loans taken, he said: "In reality, jobs have vanished in the last 10 years.”
He also accused the government of selling the country’s undertakings and resources to a few capitalist friends.
“More than 30 big public sector undertakings have been sold. Cash flow and agricultural growth rates are historically lowest and 90 percent of MSMEs are closing within three years,” he said.
