Accusing Bharatiya Janta Party of either withdrawing the schemes launched for benefit for poor by previous governments or pushing it under the carpets, Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) supremo Mayawati on Saturday had raised question over the benefits to the poor through the much publicized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘ Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yogjna’ scheme.
“I don’t think the poor would be benefited by such schemes. Everyone knows from where the poor would put money on their accounts while how they would get the Rs 1 lakh insurance benefit,” questioned BSP supremo. She said people know how Insurance companies treat the people when they claim the money. Talking to reporters here on Saturday afternoon, Mayawati said her government in the last regime had also launched UP Mukhyamantri Garib Mahamaya Yogjna which was more beneficial than the Jan Dhan scheme of the BJP’s central government. She said that the need of the hour is to give direct benefit to the poor and dalits.
She also took strong exception on the act of the Narendra Modi government for suspending or stopping all the welfare schemes launched by the previous Central governments. “BSP is watching the act of the BJP government and will do accordingly,” she said. The BSP supremo said though ‘very little’ benefit was given to the poor including SC/ST, OBCs and religious minority of the schemes of the previous central government but still these schemes should be shelved only after bringing other welfare programmes.
Reacting sharply on the matter related to the son of Union Railway Minister, Sadanand Gowda raping a film star and controversy surrounding union home minister Rajnath Singh’s son, she said it is just the beginning, more will come in future.
BSP supremo also took a dig on chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s foreign visit and alleged that the present Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh was just interested in ‘publicity’ rather than doing work. “Now Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has gone on a foreign trip to attract investment when there is vast investment potential in the State as well as in the country. I never went to any foreign country to get investment,” she said while taking a dig on Akhilesh’s trip to Netherland. “Every project and schemes launched by the government was just on papers and nothing in the ground. The government is just interested in its publicity”, she further alleged.
Reacting on the heavy backlog of cane dues of the farmers in the state, Mayawati alleged that there is a nexus between the SP government and the private sugar mill owners. “Due to the nexus such huge amount of the farmers is pending and the government is just giving time and warning but taking no action against the erring mills,” she added. The former CM also criticised the UP government over the law and order situation and delay in taking the decision to set up fast track courts in the state. “The state government has failed to prevent crime against women in the state and setting up fast track courts will be of no use if crimes were not stopped,” she added.

Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) supremo Mayawati was again elected unopposed as the party’s national president here on Saturday. The election of the president were done by the members of the highest political body Central Executive Committee(CEC) and All India State Committee meeting here. Mayawati is the BSP president since 2003. Mayawati, thanked the committee members for showing faith on her while the members also congraluted her for getting elected unopposed. After the election of the national president, the new president Mayawati reviewed the political works of the other states.
She also reviewed the poll preparation in four states of Maharastra, Haryana, Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir where assembly elections are slated in next couple of month time. On Sunday, the Party will hold meeting of the leaders from all over the country where they will discuss the political situation after BJP came to power at the Centre besides growing communal violence in the country particularly in Uttar Pradesh.
