40,92 LMT paddy purchased so far

The Uttar Pradesh government has bought approximately 40.92 lakh metric tonnes of paddy so far, benefitting more than six lakh farmers during the 2021-22 kharif marketing season (KMS), at minimum support price (MSP) like it was done in previous years.

Commissioner, Food and Civil Supplies, Sorabh Babu, said, “As on December 30, total paddy worth more than Rs 7,381.08 crore has been purchased from the farmers and payment is being made within 72 hours of the purchase directly to their bank accounts.”

As per Food and Civil Supplies department data, the state government agencies and Food Corporation of India (FCI) have procured more than 0.87 LMT of paddy in the last 24 hours and the process of paddy procurement is going on smoothly in the state.

Earlier, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had instructed officials to ensure smooth purchase of the crop and directed key district officers including ADMs, SDMs, tehsildars, to monitor the procurement by conducting on-site inspections of purchase centres.

Over 4,000 procurement centres have been set up across the state to facilitate direct purchase from farmers in 73 districts.
