28 Raipur villages to get clean, safe drinking water

As many as 28 villages in Raipur district will be getting clean and safe drinking water soon.

The Chhattisgarh Government will launch Rs42.90 crore ‘Community Water Supply Project’ in the villages.

The water supply to the villages would be ensured from Kharun River’s Bhairwa Anicut. The project is to be implemented by Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) in joint collaboration with NABARD.

The villages to receive water supply from the project are – Bhairwa, Panderbhatta, Bhaismunda, Murra,Parsatrai, Baratnara, Charoda, Tanda, Mohandi, Godi, Nagargaon, Akoli, Mandhar, Gidhouri, Tivariya, Kapsada, Devri, Akoli, Manohara, Mehersekha, Kukera, Kuthrail, Maloud, Mauhagaon, Silyari, Taresar, Raita and villages of Dhardiwa region.

It may be recalled that the PHED in joint association with NABARD will also launch a ‘Community Water Supply Project’ in Tamnar development block of Raigarh district.

 The project would provide relief to people of three villages mainly Kasdol, Godi and Tamnar where ground water levels had been depleting fast.

 The project would comprise constructing an Anicut on Kelo river in Kasdol village to reach water in the three villages.

 The State government has approved more than Rs2.97 crore for the project.

 Notably, the State Government has previously approved a total of 11 tap water projects involving a cost of Rs3.47 crore in Raigarh district.

 The projects have been approved under National Rural Drinking Water Programme.

The regions where the projects is to be implemented are—three villages in lailunga Development Block,  Two villages each in Dharamjaigarh and Barakela development blocks and one village each in Sarangarh, Tamnar,  Kharsia and Gharghoda development blocks.

The tap water projects when ready would be operated and maintained by respective Panchayat bodies.

 Chhattisgarh was ranked first in the country for providing domestic water connection in 2014-15 under the NationalRural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP), officials stated.

This was the State's second major achievement after bagging first position in the country for installing solar pumps. 

The Central Government had given a target of 30,000 water connection for the year 2014-15 under the programme the objective of which is to provide pure drinking water to rural people to protect them from water borne diseases.

The State has provided 88,000 domestic water connections in 10 months of 2014-15 and this is more than 50 per cent of total domestic connections provided in the State in past 42 years. In total, the number of domestic connections provided in rural areas has crossed the figure of 2.50 lakh, officials stated.

 The PHED is providing safe and clean drinking water to the residents of 1,145 habitats in the State, officials stated.

 Earlier, the people in various districts had been getting drinking water with excess iron, hard water and fluoride content, they stated.

 The State Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) has installed 33,327 hand pumps during the past two-and-half years in the State till the month of August this year.

During the period, a total of 1000 power operated pumps were also installed, officials stated.

The Department carried out digging of a total of 40,016 bore wells in the State out of which 34,978 were successful.

PHED is providing safe and clean drinking water to the residents of 1,145 habitats in the State, officials stated.

 Earlier, the people in various districts had been getting drinking water with excess iron, hard water and fluoride content, they stated.

 Water purification plants have been installed to limit iron and fluoride contents and R.O. (Reverse Osmosis ).

 State PHED Minister Ramsevak Paikra  had initiated the works on nine 'Nal-Jal' Yojanas ( Tap water projects) at a cost of Rs276.67 crore.

 The PHED has installed as many as 251 new solar powered pumps in various districts in rural pockets of Chhattisgarh, officials stated.

 The Department also installed a total of 8,950 new hand pumps during 2014-15 under the National Rural Drinking Water Mission in the rural pockets of the State.

 There were a total of 10,373 tube wells dug up by the Department in the entire State out of which 8,950 wells were declared successful.

 During the last financial year, 1,034 new hand pumps were established in rural schools and 1,881 in Anganwadis.

 As many as 141 new tube wells were dug in the urban pockets of the State out of which 126 were declared successful during the last financial year.

Notably, Chhattisgarh ranks first in the country in terms of providing drinking water through solar powered pumps, officials stated.

 Out of the total number of solar pumps installed in the entire country in financial year 2013-14, nearly 90 per cent of the solar pumps were installed in Chhattisgarh itself, they claimed.

 An amount of Rs65.28 crore has been spent on 6503 pure and safe drinking water schemes by the Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED)  during the past six years in Bastar district.

About 6449 drinking water schemes have been already completed and people are getting safe and pure drinking  water, officials stated.

The drinking water projects have been sanctioned during the fiscal 2009-10 and 2014-15. The projects include installation of 6372 hand-pumps, 91 spot source scheme, 39 Nal- Jal yojana and one water procurement project.

 The PHED spent Rs54.72 crore on installation of hand-pumps in Bastar district, Rs5.77 crore on Nal-Jal yojana, Rs3.80 crore on spot source scheme and RsOne crore on water procurement project.
