25-year-old gunman held for opening fire at sweets shop

The Delhi Police has arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly opening fire at a sweets shop in Tilak Nagar and recovered one illegal sophisticated automatic pistol and four empty cartridges from his possession.

According to the police on Sunday, they nabbed the accused 25-year-old Vishu alias Kranti after a brief exchance of fire and added that he is believed to be a budding shooter of the Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu gang.

On Friday, two assailants opened fire at a sweets shop in Delhi’s Tilak Nagar area at around 11.15 pm, according to officials. Police said that bullets hit the front glass of the shop and no person was injured.

“Information was received that the accused in the sweets shop firing will come to Dwarka. A team was formed to arrest the accused. A trap was laid and the accused when surrounded by police, started to fire upon the police party and he was overpowered gallantly,” ACP Crime Branch Sanjay Bhatia said.

“Kranti, is a resident of the Kakrola village and is an active member of the Nandu gang,” said the officer, adding that the accused is a history-sheeter. An FIR under section 221, 132, 109(1) of BNS and different sections of Arms Act is registered at Police Station Crime Branch Pushp Vihar.

Elaborating on the role of the accused, the ACP added, “In past two days, the above accused along with his associates Vijay Kalu and others opened fire at a plot in Kakrola Village over a property dispute injuring one Pankaj, after  a few hours of this incident, the accused opened fire at Singlas Sweets, Tilak Nagar. One person named Pankaj was injured during firing in Kakrola Village.”
