BJP demands Rs 10l to D’nal deceased farmer’s kin

Dhenkanal: The BJP Dhenkanal district unit has demanded at least Rs 10 lakh as support to the family of deceased farmer Sadasiva Sahu of Dhenkanal district who had committed suicide due to huge crop loss and debt burden. The BJP said Sahu of Ostapal village under Odapada block had cultivated crops on four acres land as a sharecropper during the Khariff season, but incurred loss due to drought. When he further attempted to recover the loss by growing vegetables, he again failed due to lack of water.

 

Two accused escape from Kandhamal jail

Phulbani: Two under-trial prisoners Pankaj Digal of Uperdandikia under the Phiringia PS who is involved in a murder case and Suresh Naik of the Raikia PS area involved in a theft case escaped from the G Udayagiri Jail in Kandhamal district on Wednesday by jumping over the prison wall. The Jail Deputy Superintendent lodged an FIR at the G Udayagiri PS in this regard.

 

HM held for sexually assaulting minor girl

Phulbani: Kandhamal District Welfare Officer (DWO) Ganeswar Bharimal lodged a complaint against Headmaster Ganesh Chandra Jena of Penagaberi Ashram School under the Tikabali police station for misbehaving and sexually assaulting a minor girl student of the school. Acting on the complaint, police arrested the Headmaster and forwarded him to the District Court on Wednesday. As the case comes under the POCSO Act, the G Udayagiri SDPO is investigating the case.

 

man gets jail for illegal possession of ganja

Phulbani: Additional District Judge (ADJ) Rabindranath Kumar Tosh on Wednesday awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment to one Sanatana Digal for illegal possession of ganja. The Judge also slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on Digal, who would undergo imprisonment for one year more if he fails to pay the fine amount. The judge convicted him after examining nine witnesses. Notably, police had conducted a raid on the house of Digal at Kadura village under the Phiringia police station on September 9, 2014. The cops had seized 30.655 kg ganja and arrested Digal.

 

Birla Tyres holds eye checkup camp

Baleswar: The Birla Tyres organised an eye checkup camp at its campus at Channpur on Tuesday. About 300 people got their eyes checked and availed treatment facilities from specialised doctors from a private hospital of Bhubaneswar. The programme was coordinated by Manish Patra, PK Mahapatra, DK Dhal and Sanjiv Malik.
