2 workers die in sewage treatment plant in East Delhi’s Kondli area

A day after four people died after falling into a sewer another tragic accident took place in the city. Two workers repairing the motor of a sewage treatment plant in east Delhi’s Kondli area died after they fell into the pit on Wednesday evening. The deceased have been identified as Nitesh (25), a resident of Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh and Yashdev (35), a resident of Tigri Rathol.

According to a senior police official, a police control room (PCR) call  regarding two persons working in a plant in Dallupura having fallen in a pit was received at around 5 PM following which an Emergency Response Vehicle was dispatched to the spot.

“After reaching the spot, the police team found that two persons had fallen in a sewerage treatment plant in the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Kondli. The two were taken out with help of the fire department and sent to hospital but were both declared brought dead,” said the senior police official adding that the legal action is being taken.

“Around 8 PM fire department units returned and it is reported that the two men who fell into the pit were lifted out by Delhi Fire Services (DFS) and rushed to hospital where they were declared brought dead by the doctors,” said Atul Garg, the Chief Fire Officer.
