10 killed, 7 injured due to heavy rainfall in UP

Heavy rains in the several cities since early Monday morning, has disrupted normal life in the State leading to traffic snarl and reports of house collapse and roads caving in.

Officials here on Monday confirmed that 80 people have died so far in the rain related incidents in the state while 84 people were injured. More than 451 houses have been damaged and 44 cattle were also killed. “10 persons were killed and seven injured in different parts of the UP since Sunday. The toll since last week in such incidents has reached 80 while total injured are 84 till 11.30 am on Monday,” Relief Commissioner Sanjay Prasad said.

As today was the first Monday of the holy month `Shravan’, hence the devotees had a hard time to go to the temples to offer Jalaabhisekh to the Shivlings in the entire state. Due to the rains, the water level of Ganga, Yamuna and other rivers flowing through the state was also rising and thus threatening the people living near the banks.

The situation in the state capital lucknow was worst with rain waters entering the residences of several ministers. Water logging was witnessed in most of the localities when heavy rains since morning has made the life of the people miserable. Reports said a road near the Vidhan Sabha caved in but no incident was reported there and in another incident in Chowk area, some people were injured and vehicles were damaged when a portion of a wall collapsed due to rains this morning. Water logging was reported from other parts of the state including Allahabad, Faizabad, Kanpur and other areas.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed senior officials of all districts to alert people and asked them to undertake extensive tours in the affected areas and identify dilapidated buildings and get them vacated, a government spokesperson said here. Adityanath has directed officials to give financial and medical assistance to people severely affected by rains. Weatherman has predicted rain accompanied with thunder and showers are likely to occur at most places over east and central parts of the state for the next 48 hours.

Meanwhile according to Central Water Commission report, river Sharda is flowing above danger mark in Paliakalan (lakhimpur) while Ghagra river is above the red mark at Elgin Bridge (Barabanki) and Ayodhay (Faizabad). The Ganga is overflowing in Fatehgarh, Kannauj, Kanpur Dehat, Garhmukteshwar, Fafamau in Allahabad, Varanasi, Ghazipur and Ballia. The Yamuna is rising in Baghpat, Mathura, Agra, Auraiya, Kalpi and Hamirpur, the report said. The Gomti is also rising in Neemsar (Sitapur) and lucknow, while river Rapti is rising in Siddharthnagar and Gorakhpur, it said.
